British steel firm: Labour MP calls for nationalization by summer
British Labour Member of Parliament Nic Dakin has called for the rapid nationalization of British Steel. In the politician's view, the struggling steel company must be taken into state hands before the summer in order to secure the company's future.
Dakin called the nationalization „the best outcome“ for British Steel, while negotiations over the company's future ownership structure continue. The group, which is currently owned by the Chinese company Jingye Group, has been struggling with economic difficulties for a long time.
The future of British Steel is of great importance to thousands of jobs in the UK. A potential renationalisation would represent a significant shift in British industrial policy and could have far-reaching consequences for the European steel industry.
