Survey: Israeli population war-weary, but against ceasefire with Iran

A recent survey shows a divided picture of Israeli society in the face of ongoing military conflicts in the Middle East. Although war weariness is clearly palpable among the population, a majority of respondents are against a ceasefire with Iran.

Particularly noteworthy: The vast majority of Israeli citizens do not believe that the weeks of Israeli and US attacks have significantly weakened Hezbollah or Iran. This assessment contrasts with official statements that speak of considerable military successes against both actors.

For Austria and the European Union, the situation in the Middle East remains a central foreign policy issue. The survey results suggest that despite the burdens placed on the Israeli civilian population, a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Iran currently finds little support at the societal level. Observers see this as a sign of the hardened fronts in the region, which also pose major challenges to European mediation efforts.
