62 Rental Robots in Wuhan: China's Robot Everyday is Already a Reality

A robotics innovation center in Optics Valley shows just how far China has come: robots that recognize trash, clean rooms—and how children need to be taught.

„A robot must be taught like a child“—this statement by an engineer from Wuhan sums up the state of the art more precisely than any white paper.

The Robotics Innovation Center in Optics Valley—Wuhan’s high-tech zone—has 62 robots available. They can be rented. Not bought—rented. This dramatically lowers the barrier to entry for companies.

What These Robots Can Do

The machines can independently determine whether an object is trash or a phone. They clean rooms, collect trash—and learn as they go. Optics Valley is home to innovation centers for humanoid robots and has already showcased them at the 2025 5G Industry Conference.

The Levitating Monorail

Wuhan also has a suspended monorail—the Optics Valley Suspended Monorail Line. An urban transportation system that is still considered a vision of the future in Europe is already in operation in Wuhan.

What that means for Europe

Wuhan is integrating photonics and the automotive industry: Fiber-optic cables in vehicles enable autonomous driving systems with 10-gigabit transmission speeds. This isn't research—it's production.

The Two Sides of Power

Europe is still debating AI regulation. China is already renting out robots. The gap is widening—not because of technological superiority, but because of the speed of implementation.
