Vienna, April 7, 2026 \u2013 More than 180 people have died or are missing in the latest shipwrecks in the Mediterranean. This brings the total number of victims in 2026 to nearly 1,000 \u2013 and it's only April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The numbers are not new. The Mediterranean has been killing for years. But in the central Mediterranean alone, about 765 people have died this year \u2013 around 460 more than in the same period last year, an increase of over 150 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
